  • The Sheffield Neighborhood Association and the Chicago Architecture Center are partnering to offer walking tours of Sheffield Neighbors during the Garden Walk.

  • Do I need to buy a ticket? This is a free community event. We welcome donations to continue supporting these types of free events.

How do I know what gardens to visit? Event programs will be for sale at St. Vincent de Paul Church (1010 W Webster) for $10 at the event. The program contains the list of gardens, descriptions of each garden, points of interest, and a map.

How do I participate? The Garden Walk is a self-guided tour throughout the Sheffield neighborhood (Armitage to Fullerton, Halsted to the Chicago River), so you can come any time between noon and 5pm and tour the neighborhood at your leisure.

How do I get there? The Sheffield Garden Walk is easily accessible via CTA trains (brown/purple/red lines at the Armitage and Fullerton stations) and buses (73, 74, 37, 8 bus routes). Bike racks can be found on Armitage and Webster Avenues, and at DePaul University and Oscar Mayer Magnet School. Street parking (a mix of free and metered) is available throughout the neighborhood if you choose to drive.

  • When neighbors organized the first Sheffield Garden Walk in 1969 with just 16 gardens, they wanted to draw attention to the beauty of our community. Two years later, the Garden Walk expanded to two days, and Sheffield Neighbors became “The Garden District of Chicago” as our streets filled with visitors enjoying our beautiful resident-maintained gardens. The Sheffield Garden Walk is one of Chicago’s longest-running summer festivals.
